Behind every success story is a teacher making a difference and a pupil growing in confidence.

Real School, Real Story: St Joseph’s Catholic Primary, North London

At St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, pupils come from a wide range of backgrounds and include learners with SEND and those for whom English is an additional language.

The school introduced daily Lexia sessions to help close reading gaps and build confidence  – the results have been remarkable. Teachers have seen pupils engaging more in class discussions, accessing increasingly complex texts and developing a genuine love of reading.

Through consistent, well-supported use of Lexia, St Joseph’s pupils continue to achieve exceptional outcomes, regularly placing the school in the top 10% nationally for reading.

  • After building Lexia into our interventions, it was amazing! Their confidence rose greatly with their reading, their understanding, their comprehension. It really does help build everything together.

Chipping Ongar Primary School

Chipping Ongar Primary School has seen significant improvements in literacy outcomes since introducing Lexia Core5. Pupils across Key Stages 1 & 2 have gained confidence and independence in reading, writing and comprehension. The programme’s structured, adaptive approach allows pupils to work at their own level while providing teachers with clear data to monitor progress and tailor support.

Lexia has been particularly valuable for Year 6 pupils preparing for SATs, strengthening both their fluency and comprehension skills in an engaging format. Younger pupils accessing Core5 have also improved phonological awareness, vocabulary and literacy confidence, supporting wider learning across the curriculum. The school celebrates progress through certificates, assemblies and a house-point system, creating a positive learning culture and keeping pupils motivated.

Lexia has had a clear impact on pupils’ confidence and reading skills. Students enjoy the visual, game-like format and take pride in achieving new levels and certificates. Celebrations in weekly assemblies and recognition in the wider school community create a motivating environment that encourages consistent engagement. Pupils are developing independent learning habits, while staff benefit from the easily accessible data reports, track progressing and plan interventions where needed.

  • We’ve seen that the children that are getting the greatest usage on Lexia and working through the units, their reading data in Year 6 from Autumn to May for the SATs has skyrocketed... all of the children who are on Lexia make great progress in reading, but you can really see that it does support SATs results as well.

Herne Junior School

At Herne Juniors School, Lexia is embedded as a daily early-morning intervention, giving pupils a structured, consistent opportunity to develop reading skills before the school day begins. This continuity has been key to maintaining motivation and boosting achievement. Lexia’s adaptive, gap-filling approach helps children identify and strengthen areas where they need support, while also celebrating progress in a way that builds confidence and independence.

The programme has had a transformative impact on engagement and self-esteem. Pupils take pride in completing units and receiving certificates and the emphasis on positive reinforcement ensures each session is energetic, supportive and rewarding. Monitoring tools and detailed reports allow staff to track progress closely and intervene where needed, keeping pupils on the right path and empowering families to support learning at home.

  • With Lexia, they are plugging the gaps but they are also gaining confidence because they are achieving and setting themselves up to succeed. I think that is vitally important.
