Proven Results for Core5® Reading
PowerUp® Literacy: supporting literacy in secondary schools
Independent evaluations aligned to the strongest US research standards (ESSA) show that Lexia PowerUp® Literacy is more than twice as effective as the average (traditional) adolescent reading intervention programme for 11-13 year olds.
Another independent study utilising the STAR Reading® assessment (a trusted tool used by schools worldwide to measure reading ability) evaluated the impact of PowerUp® Literacy on struggling and non-proficient readers. The findings provide strong evidence that:
- The programme results in significant improvements in reading score.
- There was consistent progress across different timescales, even after a few weeks.
- There were positive outcomes for all learners, including pupils with SEND, FSM (pupil premium), English as an additional language (EAL) and those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Proven impact across classrooms
Research shows that Core5® Reading and PowerUp® Literacy deliver greater gains in reading than traditional instruction, with effect sizes ranging from 0.06 to 0.74.
