We have been offering Lexia Core5 and Lexia PowerUp to all schools in County Wicklow for almost three years. We were especially interested in making this support available to primary and post-primary students who were experiencing any form of literacy delay.

During this period of time, we have had hundreds of children and young people aged 6- 18 using Lexia as a reading support. Students find the resource tremendously helpful and really enjoy the attractive interface and engaging images that are never boring, always challenging and satisfying to work with.

Teachers have found Lexia invaluable in terms of the very relevant and clear lessons and skillbuilders for students and the excellent inbuilt supports for busy teachers. The reporting system which enabled student and parent reports to be downloaded at any time is also a feature that has elicited many compliments from teachers.

At Blackfriars Academy (Special School) we have been using Lexia as part of our Curriculum offer for English for a number of years. It’s scope and personalised focus ensures that we meet the wide-ranging needs of our pupils in both the Exploratory and Questioning Pathways, from emergent readers to GCSE standard. The choice of programmes – Lexia Core 5 Reading and Lexia PowerUP Literacy – ensure engagement in the learning of skills of oral language, reading, spelling, and writing for all our pupils.

Indeed, with the introduction of Lexia PowerUp Literacy (which replaced Lexia Strategies), the scope of the programme has been further extended to cover the skills required for GCSE – an excellent addition to the scope. Within the questioning Pathway this has extended the remit of Lexia to include all our pupils, further enhancing the bespoke, personalised delivery of skills required in a student friendly environment. The delivery is truly student-driven and teacher-directed personalised instruction. This ensures value for money.

We use Lexia in lessons, as an extension activity as well as for homework. During Lockdowns and remote learning, it has been worth its weight in gold! The customer support is excellent, as is the training the company supplies. The reports the programme generates are detailed and highly visual, so the pupils can see at a glance the progress they are making. The lesson plans, which provide explicit instructions to staff to deliver skills in specific areas of need to individual students add a further depth and ensure success in learning.

I highly recommend Lexia as a key tool in an English teaching and learning Tool Kit.

Lexia has been a fantastic tool in supporting the children with their reading, whilst working remotely during this challenging time. Children have been able to access the learning from home and this has enabled them to make progress. Lexia has proved to be a fun tool, which supports children of all ages, abilities and backgrounds. It provides children with a sense of independence with their learning and also, with incentives such as receiving a ‘certificates’ once a child has passed a level, it also promotes a love of reading. This is our first year using Lexia and it has been a great tool so far.”

I was first introduced to Lexia as a parent, because my son’s school purchased it, around a year ago. My son thoroughly enjoyed using the program, and has made great progress with his reading skills. Watching him become more independent and feeling a sense of accomplishment when he completes a level, led me to request further information for the children I work with.

From the beginning of my contact with our Lexia rep, they have been extremely helpful and explained everything thoroughly. The children have really enjoyed the program and always ask when they can go on and complete more tasks.

Following a trial of Lexia Reading we have gone on to purchase this for our KS2 children. The difference this has made to our children has been very noticeable. The impact of lockdown was something we were very concerned about and Lexia has provided us with a way of addressing the gaps that many children are facing. It is very reassuring to see the progress the children are making and the reports are very clear at showing where the gaps are and what needs to be targeted. The children enjoy the programme and have embraced it wholeheartedly.

Our pupils have enthusiastically participated in Lexia’s engaging personalised reading scheme, both at school and at home and have made good progress. They have been motivated to learn each of the various skills needed to become fluent readers using this individualised program which has moved them to the next level at their own pace, and they have been excited to feel that they are the ones in control of their learning. Their learning has also been witnessed during class following their sessions, especially when discussing specific grammatical terms which they remembered from Lexia (‘idiom’ has been a favourite to hear).

From a teacher’s point of view, everything that’s needed regarding support and intervention for any pupil who may be struggling is just a click away. Graphs and data too can be produced in a matter of seconds. Communication, technical support and backup from the customer care team has been excellent.

The Pupils, Staff and Parents of Woodfield Academy really enjoy Lexia Core 5 and Lexia Power Up – we love it’s personalised approach to meeting individual pupil needs. It has proved to be a very engaging programme and has supported the development of all aspects of reading for our pupils.

The training for staff was very supportive and easy to access, providing great insights into the assessment reports and tools that are available to help us to assess future learning needs at an individual, year group and whole school level.

The pupils have responded brilliantly to receiving certificates each time they complete a level, showing great levels of motivation to achieve the next.
Lexia has been a brilliant tool for driving progress and achievement in reading.

Lexia Core 5 Reading has had a significant impact on our school in a relatively short period of time. Staff received high quality training and use the system incredibly well to support their reading instruction. Pupils have responded extremely well to the interactive software and are using it daily as part of their in school reading experience and also accessing it at home.

The system was quick to set up, is incredibly user friendly and is having impact. As a leader in school, the monitoring of Lexia is simple and quick
Children are independent and motivated to use Lexia. Our pupils have really engaged with Lexia Core 5 and it really is making a difference.

We originally identified Lexia Core5 as a tool to put more structure around our targeted interventions for a small number of pupils. However, during the trial period it quickly became apparent that pupils of all abilities were gaining an enormous amount from the structured and engaging approach to reading instruction. The ease with which the programme could be accessed by pupils at home meant it was a valuable part of our remote learning provision, and since the full re-opening of the school and the roll-out of the programme to all of KS2, we have seen terrific engagement and early signs of progress from pupils. I am excited for our staff to become more familiar with the programme, as I am confident the data and insights derived from it will enable targeted, timely and impactful interventions, ultimately leading to more confident and capable readers in all of our classrooms!

We have just started using Lexia PowerUp and have been very impressed with the efficient service provided by Lexia. The training is well-structured and clear, and any queries are dealt with quickly. The support has been great.

The program itself is very straightforward to use and it’s been lovely to see pupils, who can be reluctant to complete written tasks, engaging well. There are 1000s of varied activities, and I particularly like the fact that each pupil has an individualised program to follow, once they’ve completed the auto-assessment. Minimal staff input is needed, as pupils work independently through the levels. However, staff are alerted if a pupil is struggling with a particular activity, and can then intervene to give additional support. The reports provided by the program are informative and will provide useful feedback for staff and parents alike.

We are looking forward to being able to support pupils to catch up on and improve, their literacy skills, especially as their learning has been impacted by lockdown periods. Pupils can access the program from home, and I am sure that all of this will provide additional reassurance to parents.
