These include:
- Experimental studies that include randomly assigned treatment and control groups to eliminate selection biases.
- Quasi-experimental studies with treatment and control groups that may not be randomly assigned. There may be some selection biases that are statistically addressed.
- Promising studies include correlational evidence that the program has an impact. These studies may not include a control group, but selection effects are addressed statistically.

This document summarises 14 research studies that constitute the evidence base for PowerUp. The studies summarised in this report provide robust and diverse evidence that PowerUp is effective at improving literacy outcomes for students.
Lexia Core5 Reading Efficacy Research 2025
This document summarises more than 60 research studies spanning more than 15 years that constitue the evidence base for Core5. 21 of the studies about Core5 are peer-reviewed publications. The studies summarised in this report provide robust and diverse evidence that Core5 can be used to accelerate the development of fundamental literacy skills for students of all abilities.
Lexia Core5 Reading Enhances Reading Growth in Students with Disabilites
This 2023 study was a randomised control trial of five US elementary schools, and found that pupils who used Core5 significantly outperformed control students on a standardised reading assessment.
Lexia Core5 Reading Correlational Research
This Correlational Research document summarises over 70 reports produced by Lexia Research demonstrating how program measures in Core5 correlate with test scores obtained on well-known interim and summative tests of reading ability. The correlations in these reports establish Core5's program measures as a valid form of classroom assessment.
RAND Study: Lexia Core5 Reading Supports Student Learning
This quasi-experimental 2023 study, conducted by the RAND corporation, evaluated the effects of Lexia Core5 Reading on the achievement of US students duing the post-pandemic, 2021-22 academic year. Overall Core5 students outperformed their counterparts in the comparison group by almost 54%.
Reasearch Integration Report: Early Evidence Establishing the Efficacy of Lexia Programs
The studies reviewed here demonstrate the efficacy of Lexia programs that were the precursors to Core and PowerUp. Positive outcomes were demonstrated across multiple studies for various student subgroups, including students in preschool through first grade, students identified as low performers, and English Learners.
Benefits of Lexia PowerUp Literacy in a Short-Term Implementation
In this randomised control trial study, three US schools were assigned to use Lexia PowerUp Literacy while two schools were assigned to the control group. Score on STAR Reading served as the outcome measure, with PowerUp Students found to be much more likely to move up a benchmark level on the assessment than students that did not.
