Evaluation FAQs
Who should be involved?
- A senior staff member responsible for improving teaching and learning
- A sample group of students (to discuss with your staff and LexiaUK consultant)
- Literacy, SEN or English Coordinator
- ICT Technical Support
- If you wish, your cluster schools can get involved by conducting a similar trial
How often do students need to use the software
A minimum of 3 times a week, for no more than 20 minutes. Little and often is best.
How long is an evaluation?
An evaluatuation is as long as it needs to be in order to prove effective - BUT no longer. We aim for approximately 60 days.
What impact will this have?
Independent research shows students will advance at twice the rate in their reading skills as non-users. Spelling and self-motivation can also improve.
Time implications for staff:
Lexia is designed to save you time and money. We will provide you with the training you need to get the study off the ground. It usually takes an initial consultation with the key decision maker(s) in your school (15 mins), followed by a training session at a later date (approx 45 mins). Once students are on the software, they are largely left to work independently.
Who is responsible on a daily basis?
We usually find that students who are timetabled together to use Lexia under the supervision of one person results in better consistency of delivery. TA's often take on this role. Your Lexia consultant will keep in regular contact with this person to offer guidance and support (if required).
How do I measure success?
Lexia provides an assessment tool to enable pre and post tests to be administered. Each test takes no more than 8 minutes. Teachers tell us the assessment is a great tool for monitoring progression and demonstrating 'value added'.
Current Reading Age assessments used by your school can also be performed as another measure.
You may measure success by other means. Examples are:
I can only see 6 students 3 times a week. My aim is that with Lexia I can see 12.
Regular assessment is a great difficulty for me. I need reports that will continually inform staff of areas where pupils need additional help, without having to constantly administer and mark tests.
What happens at the end of the trial?
Either purchase the software or uninstall and send it back. There is no obligation to by, however if you use Lexia how we advise, we are convinced you will realise its worth.
